Design Your Blueprint

Your blueprint is the foundation for building your content each month. Establish specific goals for your social media content during the blueprint build-out process. These might include:

  • Driving website traffic
  • Increasing engagement
  • Generating new leads
  • Growing revenue
  • Building an online community

Goals drive the content themes, ideas and prompts you will create. While your goals should remain consistent every month to effectively grow both your audience and brand, your ideas, themes and prompts will change. As you brainstorm topics each month, keep a running list of ideas for when it’s time to create your content. It will make batching content a lot easier.

Create Your Content

Research industry topics, trends, keywords and hashtags that reinforce your brand’s goals. Check out industry thought leaders for inspiration to get your wheels spinning. Think back to your goals and use the themes in your blueprint as a starting point. Oftentimes, you can pull from content you already created in e-newsletters or blogs. Be authentic and consistent with your brand’s voice and identity, and the rest will fall into place.

Include Calls to Action

Calls to action (CTAs) prompt your audience to engage in a certain behavior and should directly support your goals. CTAs encourage followers to take a specific action to reach those goals. An effective CTA starts with a powerful action verb and has a clear benefit for the audience.

Add Visuals to Your Content

Consider what type of imagery you want to include with your content and jot down ideas along the way. Having a solid balance of images and graphics on your feed creates a nice aesthetic, and your audience will be naturally drawn to content when it looks visually appealing!

Plan photos in advance and keep them for future use. Incorporate stock photography and create a bank of images to ease the content creation process. When creating graphics, use tools to enhance the professionalism of your graphics, such as Canva.

Post or Schedule Your Content

An ideal blueprint for your content calendar should indicate the:

  • Date and time for posting
  • Post copy and imagery
  • Platform (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.)
  • Links and hashtags to correspond with each post

Consider the best times to post when assigning content (review your analytics) and keep in mind they vary for each platform. After the calendar is finalized, schedule posts in advance to remove the burden of daily posting.

Authentic and strategic social media content is essential for business growth. Before scheduling your next month of social media posts, review, track and monitor how previous posts performed to evolve your content and expand your reach. Don’t be afraid to reuse and repurpose previous posts (It’s actually a best practice!) but continue to create and brainstorm along the way.
